The long weekend

It is Memorial weekend, which meant a car show in town, eating al fresco and all that other stuff that goes with it. For me it means another day. Sounds depressing but not really. It means I have an extra day of potential help.
Goals for today:
Finish up a commission
Paint some lamp
Work on some metal boxes
Design new containers in field
Work out potential small garden fencing for no cost
See what unfinished projects I can still complete
Replanting items
And more....

We have the potential for some thunder showers and a little windy weather that can throw a tiny wrench in the works.

Eames, reams, memes

I read an article about the trend of individuals turning their tastes away from antiques and collectibles of the past and only being interested in the minimalist simplicity of the mid century modern and modern furniture and accessories. Pictured was an elderly lonely antique dealer holding up something  up an accessory. It made me feel bad, but the truth is young, older, older ebven are buying whatever.

I bought mid-century in the eighties when there was an abundance cheap. I still have many pieces. I find that everyone wants a mix of items. I have an Eames recliner with ottoman in with French deco, mixed with Asian kitsch, handwrought iron, original expressionistic artwork, foundry molds, theatre seats in leopard, 150 year old wood chest from Sweden, etc...

I don't think I am an anomaly, I think I am more the average. I think it all works. Antiques, modern, retro, etc.. It is the curating of these items that really matters. How do they make you feel, how does it play with your senses. I may be coming from jaded place but I follow all trends and appreciate and learn from other people's aesthetic.

Something for everyone

Something for everyone. Or make something that fits everyone. So we went from Shabby to industrial to primitive to farm? It is probably more organic, one with our roots and the process as opposed to anything else. But I love the need to have things represent something most have no inkling about. When was the last time I saw anyone possess sheep, pigs or even cows in their yard?
but as I look at the trend, there you have it. Rusty but not dead, primitive but functional, farm-like but no smelly animals and their care. I have thought about getting a goat and renting it out for yard maintenance but then I would have something new to worry about.

But there is one endeavor that I feel people really do like and that is anything having to do with their chickens. Cute sayings, cute chicken coops, cute whatever. I guess I fall into that too with my need for a better coop and naming them. Who names a hen "Bob"? Well we do or Wes did.  So as I make my plans for the day, I think about the needs, desires, the whims of the masses. The hoy polio.

I think I will make a big egg sign.... :p

So we took a drive....

So we took a drive..... This should be the start of a story but it really it was a reprieve from working on a  multitude of things. From being home and trying to get projects underway to figuring out the new landscape, it was a time to get a short break.
Chris took the opportunity to fish the aquaduct, I just needed to get out. The skies were big, beautiful and the air still. It could have been a journey to Antiques @ the Barn, but I physically was not in a place to walk around that smelly endeavor. So we just went out and tripped the light fandango for a couple of hours.
Enough to recharge a battery I suppose.
